LA’s Nuclear Secret: A Call For Action

NBC aired the fifth segment of its year-long and ongoing investigation into SSFL, “LA’s Nuclear Secret: Call For Action,” on December 14, 2015, revealing that Boeing now estimates that as many as 96 people out of 100 would get cancer from the contamination if they lived on the site – yet it has asked state regulators to allow them to not clean up about 98% of the soil on its property. Leaving that much contamination on site poses a substantial risk to nearby communities through offsite migration.

NBC also reports that LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, LA City Councilmember Mitch Englander, State Senator Fran Pavley, and Congresswoman Julia Brownley have called on the Director of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), Barbara Lee, to reject Boeing’s requests and instead reaffirm past DTSC commitments to require a cleanup of all the contamination.
