Help Prevent Environmental Injustice & Regulatory Corruption
The country’s top nuclear regulator, the NRC, is weakening radiation protection standards, which would expose Americans to more radiation. Every radiation exposure increases the risk of cancer – and with higher doses, the health impacts only get worse.
WHAT’S GOING ON?
An executive order from May 2025 directed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to consider abandoning well-established radiation science in favor of weakening radiation protection standards. The current U.S. radiation standards are outdated and fail to offer adequate public health protections. The NRC itself has acknowledged that radiation risks may be higher than previously thought. The NRC will accept public comments starting July 2nd, and issue a new, final rule by November 2026.
WHAT WOULD THIS MEAN FOR ME?
- More radioactive pollution in our air, food, and water
- Radioactive materials recycled into everyday items like zippers and glasses
- More radiation emissions and pollution allowed across nuclear facilities (including toxic waste sites, power plants, uranium mines, etc.)
- Radioactively contaminated sites that already exist in the U.S. would not get cleaned up
- Worse health impacts for women, children, and marginalized communities
HOW CAN I HELP?
Join our 90 minute webinar on July 7 (starting 8:30pm EDT, 5:30pm PDT), where we will have an expert presentation on radiation harms and comment writing workshop. Learn how to make your voice heard and submit a comment to the NRC.
